Dr Sekiguchi gave a great talk on hydration and its importance to the team! Here were some key topics discussed during the presentation!

Its important to calculate your sweat rate!
The picture above gives you the information you need to calculate your sweat rate! You should do this in order to figure out how much fluid you should be consuming during a race! Remember its important to try and not lose more than 2% of your original body mass or you could see a big decline in your aerobic fitness!

How do we check hydration status?
The urine color chart is probably the best way to go! Dr. Larry Armstrong developed this at the University of Connecticut! You need some type of cup with your urine to look at the color so the water in the toilet bowl isn't diluting it. this chart is a great way of assessing your hydration status! This should be done before starting a workout!

Finally, we can use this model to accurately assess hydration! If you have BM loss of more than 1%, you ARE thirsty, and your urine color is above 5 on the chart above, you are very likely to be dehydrated!
