NATHAN SAMUEL

BIO

AGE: 36
RACING YEARS: 2
HOMETOWN: Brookfield, CT
CURRENT RESIDENCE: New Milford, CT
FAVORITE RACE: KIC IT Stamford was my favorite. When I ran 5ks, the Moonlight run was my favorite.
OCCUPATION: Tree Surgeon
ACHIEVEMENTS: First triathlon Ironman CT 70.3, 1st in division Clydesdale KIC IT Sprint, 5th in division Clydesdale (would have placed third in age group) Pat Griskus Sprint.
GOAL FOR SEASON: Improve my run and bike performance. Running has been the hardest for me to come back to as a Clydesdale athlete. My once average frame in my younger years had me fast on my feet, with numerous age group division wins in 5k races. Now, due to occupation and injuries, I find myself running at a much more leisurely pace. I am also a big proponent of movement and activity for ailments such as arthritis and joint damage, so I always try to keep going. I would also love to run a marathon before my organic knee is done for, and may do this as a trail run or 50k ultra.

Hello all! My name is Nathan Samuel, and I am a proud member of Stella and Chewy's. I am a Clydesdale athlete that started my race career as a triathlete with a bang. I trained from scratch and 248 pounds for 10 weeks before taper for my first triathlon, Ironman 70.3 CT. I dropped 25 pounds, had some anxiety issues in the water during the race, but overall came out with a huge personal achievement finishing at 6:15:11. For me, what made this more of a challenge is my career as a tree surgeon/arborist, and self employed business owner. I realized that I could not train before my workday as I often was fatigued and made mental errors. So I trained most evenings after work and pushed myself harder than I thought possible. This was only possible because of the support and coaching of David Martin, who I proudly follow to this new and exciting group of exceptional individuals.
I am also a proud husband to my wife, Jacqui, of 12+ years, and have two children of whom are Jack(11) and Alexandra(9). We like to hike together on the weekends at some of our favorite places in Washington, CT and other surrounding areas. We also like to travel to our favorite pizza place in Shelton, CT and always feel like VIP there.
My past time is also spent with motorcycle trips to New Brunswick and Nova Scotia to visit my Canadian friends, some of whom are also responsible for my turn to triathlon! After visiting in 2018 IM 140.6 Lake Placid to watch my friends wife compete, I got hooked. I rationalized that I've biked long distance in the past, run half marathons, and swum as a child, that I could do this! I was right, but it took all of my being to get there and with a solid support structure.
I couldn't be happier to pursue this adventure with this new team! Bite me, I dare ya!
